Here's a list of commonly used abbreviations within the marketing industry and an explanation of what each of the terms mean.
If you need any further explanation, please feel free to give me a shout!
ALT Tag - Alternative Text: Is text used to describe and tell the search engines what an image is about.
BAU - Business As Usual: With relation to content or copy, this refers to updates that you would normally make.
CMS – content management system: This refers to the backend of a website i.e a WordPress.
Copy/Copywriting : is the text used within all marketing material and brand awareness content.
CTA – Call to Action: An instruction that prompts the readers to take an action i.e'subscribe now'.
Ego-bait: Appealing to the ego of an influencer by publicly posting a message of recognition to them.
PR - Public Relations: Is an earned media form and involves the practice of sharing information with news or media outlets i.e via a Press Release.
SEO - Search Engine Optimisation: Is the practice of ensuring a website or blog is searchable and ranks well in search engines such as Google.
Social Listening: Monitoring your social media platforms to identify new or growing trends, interests and conversations.
Social Proof - This is when the interest shown on social media influences others to also act positively or think more highly of the brand or content shared.
TOV - Tone of Voice: This relates to all brand copy and the style in which it is written i.e formal or informal.
Traffic: People who visit your website page or blog post.
UGC - User Generated Content: Is any content created by users. Examples of this is social media updates, forum comments and blog updates.
URL - Uniform Resource Identifier: When making reference to a URL, I am talking about a website i.e http://www.themediaformula.com/
USP - Unique Selling Point: Is the aspect of a product or service that separates it from its competitors.
UX - User Experience: The practice of ensuring or enhancing the experience of the user and a product, service or platform.
